We’ve heard of getting cold feet, but this is straight up in cold blood!
In a new post on the Relationship_Advice Reddit forum over the weekend, a woman poured out her heart by revealing her fiancé told her she was “not his type”! Oh no… And it gets worse. He dumped this on her just WEEKS before they were set to marry! The post was titled:
“My Fiancé told me (31 F) I am not his (30 M) type. We’re getting married in 3 weeks. How can I move forward?”
Off to a heartbreaking start. In the post, the woman explained how she’d been dating her guy for nearly 10 years, and they finally got engaged last year. She wanted a short engagement, she said, “because I feel like I’m getting old and I didn’t want to look old in my wedding pictures.” She said she’d been “working on my appearance a ton” in preparation for the big day, by losing weight, toning her body, and now “feeling really great about myself and the way I look”.

Awesome! Right? Apparently not to her future husband…
The soon-to-be bride explained how — with about a month’s time before they’re planning to walk down the aisle in — she casually asked her man if he had a “type” and at first, he gave a great answer:
“A couple weeks ago out of curiosity I asked my fiancé if he had a type because I had seen someone ask that on a TV show, realized I had never asked him and was curious. He told me I was his type and he thinks I’m beautiful and he loves me.”
She claimed a few weeks after this, they were watching a TV show, and the man got a real crush on one of the characters:
“He started acting strangely and any time the character would do something I disagreed with he would defend her.”
He even suggested she get a sleeve tattoo just like the TV character. She admitted him playing “devil’s advocate” wasn’t anything new, but it often made her feel “flustered” and unheard by her partner. Which isn’t a good sign to begin with, but then things got worse!
The woman said her partner went all-in on how much he LOVES this TV character:
“He said yes that he likes her aesthetic and then went off to name a bunch of things he liked about her that is the opposite of what I look like (blonde hair, blue eyes, lots of tattoos and a rock and roll girl kind of vibe).”
And after this, he told her he changed his mind. Now that he had time to think about it, he decided this character was his type — and not his future wife:
“I asked if I was his type and he said no, but that he still finds me beautiful and that he loves me.”
Yeah, we can see how that would be hurtful. Even if it is just a television show, saying a character who’s the near polar opposite of your bride is your real type is a huge gut punch!
Wrapping up her post, the OP mentioned how her man’s ex fit this description to a T, which added salt to the wound:
“The cherry on top is that his ex before me had this type of look, when I brought this up he said personality is very important to him too, and she did not have a good personality. I’m not really sure what to do because my spirit is absolutely crushed. I feel ugly. I’m heartbroken. I feel alone and like I have no one to talk to.”
Sad. In several edits to the post, OP clarified that her man doesn’t want to back out of the wedding, is still very attracted to her, and that she never was one to “nag” him about getting married.
In the replies, users were torn about how to interpret this story. Some insisted her future husband was blatantly self-sabotaging, while others said the OP was reading way too far into this situation. After all, crushes on hot TV characters are totally normal and healthy.
