Donald Trump was nearby when shots were fired in Florida on Sunday.
The former president was getting ready to tee up at his Trump International Golf Course West Palm Beach in Florida on Sunday when Secret Service agents reportedly spotted and fired shots at a potential shooter. Palm Beach Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said in a press conference that the barrel of an AK-47 was spotted sticking through a fence about 300 to 500 feet away from where The Apprentice alum was expected to arrive at a hole. It’s unclear if the suspect fired any shots, but the Secret Service agent fired four to six shots in the suspects direction, leading the suspect to flee.

Law enforcement officers later recovered the weapon and a GoPro camera, which was presumably intended to be used as a recording device. Martin County Sheriff’s Office officials managed to apprehend the assailant near the golf course after they tried to flee in an SUV. However, the suspect’s identity has not been publicly revealed. The FBI said Donald was the target of “what appears to be an attempted assassination.”
In a subsequent statement issued by the Trump campaign, Donald declared himself “safe.” He wrote:
“There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL!”
