In a devastating incident in Busan, a man in his 50s fell from a high-rise apartment and tragically landed on an 80-year-old pedestrian, resulting in both their deaths. The accident, which has left South Korea in shock, occurred on the morning of June 15 in the Sasang District.

Around 7 AM, the 50-year-old man plunged from the 15th floor of an apartment building. Unfortunately, he struck an 80-year-old resident who was passing by the entrance of the building. The unfortunate elderly man was out for a walk with his wife, was severely injured, and was rushed to the hospital. Despite the medical team’s efforts, he succumbed to his injuries the next day.

The deceased man’s family is still grappling with grief but also a deep sense of injustice. The family has recently spoken to the media and shared they feel as though there is no one to hold accountable for their father’s sudden death. In an emotional interview, members of the family also shared that they couldn’t even say their final goodbyes in the ICU.

Adding to their distress, the family is dismayed by the legal closure of the case due to the deaths of both individuals involved. They met with the family of the man who fell but were told that nothing could be done to resolve their predicament.

Furthermore, wikitreee reported that the elderly man and his wife were recipients of basic welfare support, and now his family is left to bear the full burden of his medical expenses. They plan to focus on his funeral arrangements before deciding on their next steps. The police are considering whether to extend victim protection and support services to the grieving family, acknowledging the difficult circumstances they now face.

Tragic accidents like these are sadly not unheard of in South Korea. In a similarly sorrowful case in 2013, a man in his 30s fell from a Busan apartment, fatally injuring a young girl. In another incident in Gwangju in 2016, a government worker returning from a night shift was killed by a falling resident.
