tvN’s upcoming drama “Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born” has shared its first stills of actress Ra Mi Ran!
Based on a popular webtoon, the upcoming drama is directed by Jung Ji In, known for “The Red Sleeve.” Set in the 1950s, shortly after the Korean War, the series follows Jeong Nyeon (Kim Tae Ri), a young vocal prodigy who dreams of becoming a top traditional theater actor. The show explores Jeong Nyeon’s journey through competition, teamwork, and personal growth amid a difficult era for the nation.
In addition to Kim Tae Ri, who will take on the titular role of Jeong Nyeon, the cast includes Shin Ye Eun, Ra Mi Ran, Jung Eun Chae, Kim Yoon Hye, and special guest Moon So Ri.
Ra Mi Ran will play Kang So Bok, the charismatic leader of the Maeran classical opera troupe. Having made a name for herself as a singer, she boldly founded the opera troupe after gathering female traditional musicians, leading to the golden age of traditional Korean opera. Kang So Bok is strict with her students but even stricter with herself, and she holds significant influence in the 1950s Korean traditional theater scene.
In the newly released stills, Kang So Bok exudes a charismatic aura as troupe leader. Instead of showing her under the glamorous stage lights, the photos depict her offstage, dressed in elegant, dull-colored hanbok and exuding a commanding presence in the audition room and the trainees’ practice room. In one photo, she is captured intently gazing at the stage while standing in an auditorium, observing her troupe’s rehearsal.
The production team of “Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born” remarked, “As an actress whose talent needs no words, Ra Mi Ran added tension and weight to the drama with her strong presence.” They added, “Moreover, the story of Kang So Bok, who is not only the leader of the Maeran classical opera troupe but also a traditional Korean singer herself, will serve as a key element in the drama’s plot. Please look forward to it.”
“Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born” premieres on October 12 at 9:20 p.m. KST.
