They wanted to create a new buzzword excluding NewJeans.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism recently made HYBE‘s audited internal documents public. Although the documents were soon made private again as it was decided that the contents would be detrimental to the public, netizens’ fast fingers had already been put to work.
In a snippet about plans for HYBE’s girl groups, it was shown that the company’s staff had planned to oust NewJeans. When ILLIT debuted and joined the ranks of HYBE’s girl groups including NewJeans and LE SSERAFIM, multiple medias had referred to the trio as “New-ILL-LE” to praise the groups as the new generation of HYBE idols. The report included plans to remove “New” from this acronym and create a new category to tie LE SSERAFIM into for promotion.
HYBE noted that when ILLIT was tied to NewJeans and LE SSERAFIM, they began to receive more attention.
As various communities began to use “HYBE’s New-ILL-LE” to refer to NewJeans, ILLIT, and LE SSERAFIM, people began to mention ILLIT more.

They planned to tie LE SSERAFIM into the category of girl groups that became million sellers and position the group as the cream of the crop. In the process, they wanted to oust NewJeans from the group.
Right now, it might be necessary to tie LE SSERAFIM to BLACKPINK, aespa, and IVE into the category of girl groups as million sellers in the first week of sales and separate them from the 4th generation. We were plagued by the term New-ILL-LE for a few days, but we can just throw “New” away and start a whole new thing.
