Ben Affleck is facing an unexpected consequence of his divorce from Jennifer Lopez. His movie career is slowing down!
Insiders told Page Six on Thursday that production on the actor’s upcoming film has “slowed.” Ben produces movies alongside Matt Damon via their production company Artists Equity, and their latest project is a crime thriller called RIP set to be released on Netflix. This isn’t one the besties are writing together — just starring in and producing. While it’s still in the works, things haven’t been moving as quickly as expected, an insider dished:
“With Ben’s divorce and everything going on in his personal life, production on the film has slowed and there’s no release date at the moment.”
Uh-oh!
A divorce is a massive change in one’s life, so it’s not shocking he would be a bit distracted. The fact that it’s having such a negative impact on the whole project seems troubling, though! There should be a ton of people to pick up his slack, you know? Especially since he isn’t directing this one!

Trying to downplay the issue, the confidant pointed out that RIP isn’t the only project on the docket, sharing:
“Ben and Matt are working on a few different projects, but their main focus has been on the Netflix crime thriller. […] Things just haven’t been progressing as quickly as they initially planned.”
They continued:
“They’re still working on the project, but there’s not a firm deadline with any of it.”
Teyana Taylor and Sasha Calle have been cast to star in the film written and directed by Joe Carnahan, who directed Ben in Smokin’ Aces. In July, it was announced Netflix had secured the rights. There could be any number of reasons the film’s taking longer to come together, but a divorce isn’t easy to deal with in the mix of it all! Not to mention, the Gone Girl star is currently having to promote another movie, a sports biopic called Unstoppable, that stars his ex! OOF!!
While Ben has avoided in-person events for the drama, he was just praising J.Lo’s work in the project during an interview. He’s handled himself well during the promotion, but it must be awkward AF! The good news is it doesn’t seem like Matt minds taking things a bit slow, another insider told the outlet:
“Ben has been leaning heavily on Matt during these past several months following his separation… Matt has always been an amazing friend to Ben and he’s really being there for him right now.”
That’s nice! We’re sure they’ll figure it out, and Ben will probably have an easier time getting down to business once Jennifer’s fully out of the picture. Unstoppable hits theaters on December 6, not long from now! Then he can focus on RIP and on his next directorial effort, a kidnapping thriller starring Matt called Animals.
