Joe Biden announcing today that he is dropping out of the 2024 presidential race has given Damon Lindelof “genuine excitement for the election.”
The first significant Hollywood donor to go public with a call for supporters to withhold their cash after Biden’s disastrous June 27 debate performance and to have the 81-year-old incumbent end his reelection bid, the Lost showrunner Sunday took to social media to now praise POTUS. Declaring “the DEMBARGO is lifted,” Lindelof also said he “will fully support whoever can catalyze passion and engagement across our country… our ENTIRE country, no caveats.”
As you can see, Emmy winner Lindelof didn’t offer Vice President Kamala Harris an endorsement, as Biden did, but complimented the Veep for her own reaction to Biden’s announcement:
In his exclusive July 3 guest column for Deadline, Lindelof was very blunt about what had to be done for Biden to understand how the political landscape had dramatically shifted after his rambling and often disjointed debate appearance on CNN last month against Donald Trump. “The checks give us access to power and it is power that is needed to persuade our pitcher to come out of the game, because dammit, even four runs down with the bases loaded and no outs, he still feels like he’s got good stuff,” the Watchmen chief said of donors and Biden in a sports analogy. “Yet we’re just here in the stands. We can shout as much as we want, but the pitcher will ignore us despite our checks,” Lindelof continued, noting not just the ticket at the top, but those down ballot. “Fortunately, he’s not the only one we’re writing them to.”
Taking the first step to say what many were already thinking, Lindelof’s call was soon followed by similar declarations from the likes of Rob Reiner, Abigail Disney and George Clooney, among others in Tinseltown
Today Lindelof’s spouse and advocate Heidi Lindelof penned a note to Joe Biden on social media. “I hope when the dust settles, you are able to fully understand and FEEL this nation’s gratitude for ALL you have done!!” the women’s reproductive health advocate said. Writing big checks to the ticket this year and even hosting a fundraiser earlier this summer with the Second Gentleman, the LIndelofs attended the Biden and Barack Obama fundraiser in DTLA on June 15, which pulled in more than $30 million:
