Rapper Sean and beloved actress Jung Hye Young have touched hearts across the country with their unique way of celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary. Instead of a lavish party or luxurious gifts, the couple spent the special day giving back to the community, continuing a tradition they started two decades ago.
On October 8, Sean shared on Instagram that he and his wife marked their anniversary by volunteering at Bapure, an organization in Seoul that provides free meals to the homeless. The couple has done similar acts of kindness every year since they got married.
Sean reminisced about the day after their wedding when he proposed an idea to Jung Hye Young: Instead of keeping all the happiness from their marriage to themselves, they should share it with others. The two agreed to donate ₩10,000 KRW (about $7.44 USD) each day, and by the end of each year, they would give the accumulated amount to charity.
For the past 20 years, the couple has stuck to this routine, donating the equivalent of around ₩3.65 million KRW (about $2,710 USD) annually. In leap years, when there’s an extra day, they add a little more. Their total donations now amount to an impressive ₩73.1 million KRW (about $54,300 USD).
The couple’s efforts aren’t limited to financial donations. Every year on their anniversary, they actively participate in serving meals to the homeless, creating a tradition that’s as meaningful to them as it is to those they help.
Sean shared that this experience has brought them immense happiness, far greater than the monetary value of their donations. He expressed his wish for their small acts of kindness to inspire others to find joy in giving as well.
