Fantômas – the band featuring Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, etc.), Buzz Osborne (Melvins), Dave Lombardo (Venamoris, ex-Slayer, etc.) and Trevor Dunn (Mr. Bungle, Melvins) – has made themselves pretty scarce in recent years. The band put out their (so far) final record Suspended Animation in 2005 and, outside three total shows in 2014 and 2017 (plus that one surprise 2023 kinda show), Fantômas hasn’t played a show in a long time.
So what’re the chances Fantômas actually comes back? According to Osborne in an interview with Far Out, probably pretty low. Or in Osborne‘s own word: “I think it’s very, very, very unlikely it’ll ever happen.” When asked why there wouldn’t be a Fantômas comeback, Osborne said Patton might unfortunately be the holdup. “Well, you’d have to get Mike involved in it, and who knows what’s going through his head? I just don’t see it happening”
Despite Osborne nothing thinking Fantômas would come back, he does note that they’d probably do pretty well if they did. “I think Fantômas would do really well, especially at this point; it’s been so long since we did anything. But I just can’t see it happening”
In the meantime, Fantômas recently ha three reissues on Ipecac Recordings including their self-titled debut, which was the first release on Ipecac, as well as The Director’s Cut and Suspended Animation. Get all three right here.
