President Joe Biden will host a ‘Brunch in Celebration of Black Excellence’ on the South Lawn. It will be the first event of its kind to ever be hosted at the White House!
Details On Biden’s Upcoming Brunch
The White House exclusively tells The Shade Room that the event is in gratitude for the Black community’s extensive contributions to the fabric of America.
Additionally, Stephen Benjamin, Biden’s Senior Advisor and Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, said the event is reflective of the president and vice president’s day-one efforts to honor Black Americans.
“We’re thrilled to be hosting the first-ever Celebration of Black Excellence at The White House. It is yet another example of the work President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have put in since Day One to honor the community through actions that have not just lowered the barriers to opportunity but promoted greater paths to excellence for Black Americans across the country. Due to the efforts of the Biden-Harris Administration, Black unemployment hit historic lows, Black net worth is up 60% since the pandemic, and Black entrepreneurs are establishing small businesses at rates not seen in 30 years,” Benjamin said.
The ‘Brunch in Celebration of Black Excellence’ follows President Biden’s second Juneteenth celebration In June. Additionally, President Biden’s event is happening during one of D.C.’s most-anticipated annual events, the Congressional Black Caucus’ Annual Legislative Conference. The president also plans to speak on the CBCF at the 2024 Phoenix Awards Dinner on Saturday, September 14th.
The ‘Brunch in Celebration of Black Excellence’ will welcome big names to the South Lawn. Monica will be taking the stage for a performance, while film producer and actress Marsai Martin will be giving remarks. Their guest list also includes CBCF members and Black leaders in entertainment, social media, political advocacy, and the private sector.
The event is leaning into the theme with an all-white dress code. Additionally, the vibe is expected to give “Sunday dinners that foster a community for Black Americans across the country,” the White House said.
White House Partners With Trell Thomas
President Biden is partnering with Trell Thomas, the founder and CEO of The Black Excellence Brunch, to bring this first-ever event to life. In an exclusive statement to TSR, Thomas said the ‘Brunch in Celebration of Black Excellence’ will have influences from his own upbringing.
“The Black Excellence Brunch is my love letter to the community that molded me over the years I spent around my mom’s kitchen table in South Carolina. Those Sunday dinners shared with family, friends, church members, and neighbors left me inspired by all of the beautiful melanin in the room. It instilled in me a conviction to make space for everyone. Though Friday’s guest list is a little bit bigger, I’m so thankful to be able to be doing this in collaboration with a White House and the President who has been consequential to Black excellence in all of its forms.”
