One of the stars of cinema juggernaut Barbie has revealed Margot Robbie surprised him on set, reminding him he’d sent her a birthday message years before.
Welsh actor Rob Brydon who surprised cinema-goers with his appearance as Sugar Daddy Ken in last summer’s blockbuster, told The Times of London that it transpired Robbie was a big fan of his British hit sitcom Gavin and Stacey (co-written by James Corden and Ruth Jones).
Brydon recounted:
“Years ago, Margot’s friend asked me to record a birthday message for her as Uncle Bryn [his character in Gavin and Stacey]. I bumped into Margot when I went for a Barbie wardrobe fitting. She said, ‘You don’t remember doing that message, do you?’ I said, ‘No, to be honest, I forgot.’”
Brydon revealed that, only working for a few hours on Barbie, he had no idea how important a film it would turn out to be: “Being in it for just a day, I had no idea.”
Last year, Brydon revealed he found it hurtful when Barbie fans questioned why he was cast in the record-breaking movie, but that how he got the role was a lesson for young actors: “You never know who’s watching, do you?”
Brydon will reprise his role of Uncle Bryn in the Christmas special of Gavin and Stacey, airing on the BBC this festive period.
