Aerosmith Retires From Touring, Says Steven Tyler’s Voice Will Never Fully Recover

Aerosmith’s marvelous run on tour is coming to a screeching halt. The famed rock band made the “heartbreaking” decision to retire from touring due to Steven Tyler‘s unrecoverable voice injury.

The band’s verified social media accounts shared the devastating news on Friday and nearly four months after the band shared new dates for its Peace Out Farewell Tour following its frontman’s vocal injury. But after more than five decades, the band had to come to the decision to end its run due to the fact that Tyler, 76, cannot fully recover from his voice injury to continue.

“As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other. He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury,” the statement read, in part. “We’ve seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side. Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision – as a band of brothers – to retire from the touring stage.”

The band’s statement went on to thank the fans who had been with them since the very beginning, as well as its “expert crew” and “the thousands of talented people who’ve made our historic runs possible.” The band also wished a “final thank you to you – the best fans on planet Earth.”

Prior to the announcement, Aerosmith, which released its last album, Music From Another Dimension!, in 2012, was supposed to resume on Sept. 20 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. And it was in September 2023 when the band had to suspend its tour — just one week after kicking off the tour — until “sometime in 2024” after Tyler suffered a vocal injury that the band said was “more serious than initially thought.”

“His doctor has confirmed that in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, he fractured his larynx which requires ongoing care,” Aerosmith said in a statement posted to the band’s Instagram page. “He is receiving the best medical treatment available to ensure his recovery is swift, but given the nature of a fracture, he is being told patience is essential.”

Tyler, who suffered his vocal injury while performing at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, added, “I am heartbroken to not be out there with Aerosmith, my brothers and the incredible Black Crowes, rocking with the best fans in the world.”
