Actresses Show Off Amazing Chemistry Despite K-Drama Removing Sapphic Content

Fans are loving their visuals together.

Over the last year, many have waited for the release of Jeongnyeon: The Star Is Born. The K-Drama is an adaptation of a manhwa of the same name about two women, opposite of each other in almost every way, who desire to act in yeonsong gukgeuk, a type of traditional Korean musical theatre that uses pansori as a primary mode of storytelling.

Kim Tae Ri was cast in the lead role, which seemed fitting as her very first role in The Handmaiden, helped to inspire the series’ writers. One of the aspects that excited many was that Jeong Nyeon was a GL (or girl love), and they anticipated the series would include the sapphic romance as well.

However, it was revealed that the series would not include a female love interest, which upset many.

Despite this, fans were recently able to enjoy chemistry between the two female leads.

On October 10, the production presentation event for the drama took place, with the stars appearing on the red carpet. Kim Tae Ri and Jung Eun Chae, who plays a member of a theater company, took photos together.

Fans especially enjoyed photos where the pair showed off their visual chemistry.

Though this is not a replacement for the erasure of queer characters, many were glad to see the chemistry in any manner.
