Here’s What Happened To O.J. Simpson’s Ashes
As previously reported, O.J. died on April 10 after a battle with cancer. He was 76.
Malcolm LaVergne tells TMZ that Simpson’s body underwent cremation. Following that process, Simpson’s ashes have been turned into trinkets for his loved ones.
Four of his adult children, Arnelle, Jason, Sydney, and Justin, reportedly received cremation jewelry. In his lifetime, Simpson welcomed five children, per PEOPLE. He and his first wife Marguerite Whitley welcomed Arnelle, Jason, and Aaren, who passed away as a toddler in their home swimming pool. His second wife, the late Nicole Brown Simpson, was the mother of Sydney and Justin.
TMZ reports that O.J.’s four living kids signed off on the cremation jewelry. Malcolm reportedly declined to describe the kind of jewelry the family got and confirmed only the kids were recipients. He allegedly did not get any jewelry and wasn’t interested in doing so.
In total, the cremation process, grieving gifts, and death certificates cost O.J.’s estate $4,243.06.
O.J. Still Owes His Ex-Wife’s Family Millions For Her Death
While Malcolm might not be interested in the O.J. trinket, he’s deeply invested in trying to clear Simpson’s postmortem debt.
Earlier this month, the lawyer spoke to TMZ about needing more than $296,000 to pay off creditors and his proposal to liquidate the late athlete’s Las Vegas homes to get the money.
Additionally, O.J. Simpson passed away while owing Nicole’s and her friend, Ron Goldman’s families their $33.5 million judgment. A jury awarded the amount in 1997 in a civil trial against him.
With the interest on the debt accumulated, Rolling Stone reports the amount has shot up to over $100 million. At the time he died, he had reportedly only paid $133,000 of the debt, per the Goldman family’s attorney.
