[K-Exclusive]: THE BOYZ Brought the Heat to ZENERATION II Tour Stop in Los Angeles
THE BOYZ returned to Los Angeles as part of their ZENERATION II World Tour on July 25th. Continuously showing their growth, the group performed at an even larger venue than previous years, taking the stage at the Peacock Theater in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles.
The show began with a VCR showing the members in all white suits floating in a blank white space with splashes of black brush strokes. Suddenly, a star in the sky flashed and exploded and the group joined together, as if symbolizing their birth from the stars. The final shot of the VCR showed the members’ silhouettes, and as the lights dimmed, the actual group members’ silhouettes could be seen on stage, and THE BOYZ were ready to start the night. The concert began with “Diamond Life,” as the eleven members stepped on stage in white suits similar to the VCR. The upbeat song set the tone well for the rest of the show, as the excitement in the air was nearly palpable. Fans screamed and cheered, waving their megaphone-shaped lightsticks in the air, and smiles could be seen on each members’ face, despite being mid-performance. This led into “Out Of Control,” another upbeat song perfect for the summer. Switching things up a little bit afterwards, the group launched into “MAVERICK,” showing off their versatility with the song’s cooler vibe.
The next set of songs was preluded with another VCR showing off each member walking around with a black outfit on. As expected, the members returned to the stage shortly afterwards with similar black outfits, and immediately launched into “TATTOO,” “Levitating,” “Back All Black,” and “Breaking Dawn.” While the previous set eased into their darker, more mature sound, this set dove straight into it. Taking another quick break to change outfits while another VCR played, the group returned to the stage once again afterwards, but with yet another genre switch.
Beginning with “Complete Me,” this next section showed off the group’s youthful charms with bright lights, casual outfits, pool floats, and lots of color. The group also performed “Fantasize,” before taking a short pause to talk with their fans. After the quick break, THE BOYZ quickly launched right back into the music, performing “Right Here,” “THRILL RIDE,” and “D.D.D,” creating the perfect summer playlist for the hot summer evening in LA. Although fans, known as Deobi, also had a clear appreciation for the group’s cooler, darker concepts, this portion of the show was undoubtedly the highlight. The cheering and screaming came to a peak as Deobi embraced the fresh, youthful version of THE BOYZ they first discovered and fell in love with, and the bright set was the perfect throwback to their original signature sound and style.
Following yet another VCR break, the group returned once more to show off yet another aspect of their talents. Up until now, they’d shown off their rapping, dancing, and singing as a group, however, most of the songs previously performed still held an emphasis on their choreography. Slowing it down to show off their vocal colors and vocal prowess, however, the next songs up were “Walkin’ In Time” and “Horizon,” both of which were slower songs that were performed sitting down to truly focus on their voices. While not performed sitting down, next songs “Survive The Night,” “Back 2 U,” and “Hurt Me Less” also featured no choreography, wrapping up this vocal section of the show smoothly.
The next section of the concert brought things back to the darker spectrum of their discography. The members introduced this as the last segment of the show, asking fans if they were ready to give it their all and go crazy before launching straight into pre-release song “BITE BACK.” The bass-heavy track was illuminated with neon green and purple lights and featured a powerful dance break, and as the stage continued to fill with smoke and fog, the lights turned red immediately after the song was over to transition into “REVEAL,” “The Stealer,” and one of their more recent title tracks, “WATCH IT.” Saying their first goodbyes, the eleven boys exited the show, pretending everything was over for the night.
Not easily fooled, Deobi stuck around and cheered and chanted for their encore. Shortly after the lights went out, they lit up the theater once more as the cameras began to pan through the audience and “Dancing Till We Drop” began to play over the speakers. Showing off fans’ signs and dance moves, the song played through while Deobi cheered, danced, and sang along, preparing for the group’s return. Making their way back on stage once more, THE BOYZ performed latest title track “Nectar,” shared their final thoughts and promises of returning, and closed the show with “Fire Eyes.”
As THE BOYZ slowly exited the stage, fans also slowly began to trickle out of the theater. As all of the Deobi slowly made their way to the exits, all that could be heard was excitement over the next time fans can see the group, and reminiscing as fans already began to watch back their fancams. With that, it was safe to say that THE BOYZ created some new and beautiful memories for Deobi to cherish until the next time they meet.
