Considered the GOAT of men’s tennis by many, Roger Federer stepped down from his prestigious career after the 2022 Laver Cup, where he faced one of his biggest rivals in the sport, Rafael Nadal.
While he originally documented these final moments for himself, Federer is now sharing this candid and honest time in his life with the world. Federer: Twelve Final Days is a feature-length film that showcases Federer as he “says goodbye to a game and the fans that shaped his life for the last two decades,” according to a press release. The documentary dropped to Prime Video today, Thursday, June 20.
Federer’s tennis retirement made countless headlines in 2022 when he posted to his website about his decision. His message began, “Of all the gifts that tennis has given me over the years, the greatest, without a doubt, has been the people I’ve met along the way: my friends, my competitors, and most of all the fans who give the sport its life.”
“This is a bittersweet decision, because I will miss everything the tour has given me,” he continued. “But at the same time, there is so much to celebrate. I consider myself one of the most fortunate people on Earth.”
During this pivotal moment in Federer’s life, he allowed his journey to be documented so he could look back on it. Now, this footage is being used in Federer: Twelve Final Days and features interviews with the tennis star and his family along with commentary from other professional tennis players like Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray.
With over 20 grand slam titles in his career, Federer was truly one of the best players in professional tennis, up there with the greats — if not the best of his time. Federer: Twelve Final Days is a film tennis lovers and sports fans won’t want to miss. Below, learn everything you need to know about streaming the documentary at home.
