Margot Robbie is an expert at giving audiences what they want. Sure, that’s evident in her hands-on producing of the blockbuster hit Barbie. But she’s had the goods for over a decade now!
Speaking on the latest episode of the Talking Pictures podcast, the Aussie star recalled a story about her 2013 breakout hit The Wolf Of Wall Street — and the scene where she had to overrule Martin Scorsese!

Anyone who’s seen the flick will no doubt remember the scene. On their first date, Margot’s character Naomi brings Jordan Belfort, aka Leonardo DiCaprio, home and surprises him by going into the other room and coming out COMPLETELY NUDE!
Margot says Scorsese was very gentle with her, offering that she could just use a sexy robe or something — but she was adamant she should be full frontal. She explained:
“That’s not what she would do in that scene. The whole point is that she’s going to come out completely naked — that’s the card she’s playing.”
She’s right, of course. This is a woman who knows the effect her looks have on men, and she’s bought in to this guy’s sale of himself as having a lot of husband potential. So she’s springing a trap to own him forever. In order to understand how she’s getting this playboy to marry her, the audience needs to see how. And a picture of a naked Margot Robbie is worth way more than a thousand words.
A star was born in that moment.
But even in her audition, she was surprising Marty! Turns out the piece she was doing in her final audition with Leo required her to kiss him at the end. But she shocked the director and the star — by slapping him in the face instead! She revealed:
“I thought, I could kiss Leonardo DiCaprio right now, and that would be awesome. I can’t wait to tell all of my friends this. And then I thought… nah. And just walloped him in the face.”
See? Isn’t that what audiences needed, too? LOLz! It worked on the audience in the room anyway! She recalled:
“It was dead silence for what felt like an eternity but was probably three seconds. Then they just burst out laughing. Leo and Marty were laughing so hard, they said, ‘That was great.’ I was thinking, ‘I’m going to get arrested, I’m pretty sure that’s assault, battery.’ Not only will you never work again, actually you will go to jail for this, you idiot. And also why did you have to hit him so hard? You should have done it lighter.”
Ha! It worked though! Of course it did! We all know the real problem in Hollywood is when you can’t get arrested in this town!
What do YOU think of Margot’s wild Wolf of Wall Street tales, Perezcious readers??
